As some others have written, the response after pressing buttons isn't instantaneous, but to be honest, I've gotten used to it, and now it seems pretty close to instant. I'm glad I bought it. I had this device installed in a 2007 Honda Pilot, to go along with my JVC KW-AVX820 Double-DIN DVD/CD Multimedia Receiver with 7-Inch Widescreen Detachable Touch Panel Monitor, Bluetooth, and Full-Speed USB Port. It definitely beats the alternative of losing the steering wheel radio control option in my vehicle.
I installed this on my '05 Buick Rainier (GMT360 body - same as Trailblazer, Envoy, Ascender, etc) controlling a DNX9140. As a test, I pushed the Volume Up button 10 times in very quick succession and the unit registered 8 of them.not bad at all.
Overall, I give this 5 stars, and recommend it to anyone who has steering wheel radio buttons. Installation was not bad at all.
Also, you have to visit their website to get vehicle-specific instructions (this is because the SWI-Jack is compatible with almost a hundred different cars) [.]. Programming took all of 2 minutes.
There have been several reviews describing a lag between pushing the button and getting a response on the unit. I made sure the connections are tight and programming done correctly - the result was a perfect install with no lag on single button presses at all.
The hardest part was getting to GM's control wire under the steering wheel.
Many reviews spoke to a lag, buttons work instantly for me and flawlessly (so far). first time this has happened to me w/Amazon). Did add an automotive relay at the recommendation of the manufacturer (sent me a schematic). Returned to Amazon. Amazon had best price by a decent margin. FINALLY got the product and installed and it works great.
100% satisfied once I got the correct/working unit. Spent a LONG time trying to get it to work (decent phone-in support from PAC) only to find out I had a faulty unit. fast response but they sent me the wrong product the second time (wrong name on invoice and everything. I mounted in a 2006 Tahoe with a Clarion radio.
Once programmed and installed, the unit is very slow to respond with the Kenwood deck. The brown and red wire must be grounded though. Spend your money elsewhere if you're installing on a Honda. I installed the SWI-JACK on our 2007 Honda Pilot to work steering controls for the new Kenwood DNX-9140. The instructions were extremely difficult to follow and since our steering wheel radio controls have the 'mode' button, it wasn't clear if the black/red wires needed a capacitor or not (it states 'may or may not need a capacitor' and nothing on what dictates the need. I wish I would have saved the $50 on something else.
Installation was just a couple of wires and a few steps for programming.-Scott I was able to assign any features to any of the buttons on my steering wheel. I ended up going to the web site to make sure I had the right information for installation in my Highlander Hybrid. It works great. I could not be more pleased.
